About Frame Styles
What’s the difference between your ComfortPro (Original Hawk) and your ComfortStyle (all other) frames?
The Hawk Convertible offers interchangeable temples (the arms that go over your ears) and each set includes standard temples, micro-thin temples, and strap/cinch system. The ComfortStyle line utilizes a completely new material that can be molded very thinly and remain flexible yet unbreakable. All Flying Eyes eyewear are designed to be comfortable with a headset or helmet.
I (fly airplanes, ride motorcycles, etc…), and I’m wondering which frame style would be best for me?
All of our glasses are designed specifically for use with a headset or helmet. They’re all extremely comfortable, so it just comes down to personal preference. Check out our Recommendations for some advice based on activity or give us a call/text at (512) 213-2390 for some live human help. All of our glasses are guaranteed to be perfect for you. So, when you receive your Flying Eyes glasses, once you try them on, if you decide that you’d prefer another style, just send them back and we’ll happily exchange them. The only cost would be any difference in the frame cost compared to the version you initially purchased.
Are Flying Eyes available for men and women?
Yes! All of our frame styles look great on both men and women.
I have a (Big, Small, Head/Face), which frames would be best for me?
Wide Heads/Faces – We recommend the Kingfisher.
Narrow Heads/Faces – We recommend the Kestrel Aviator or the narrow Golden Eagle frames.
Here's a handy sizing chart to help you make your decision:
About Prescription Lenses
Can Flying Eyes Sunglasses include progressive and/or prescription lenses?
All Flying Eyes Eyewear currently available are prescription compatible. You can purchase our eyewear from our online store or one of our retailers and take them to your own optician to add your prescription lenses. You can find retailers and eye care professionals that carry our unique line of eyewear here.
Do you have photochromic lenses?
We do not offer specialized lenses in-house, but since our frames are compatible with any prescription, you can get photochromic lenses added to your Flying Eyes via your preferred optician.
Tell me more about your Prescription Lenses. What are they made of?
There are many different types of materials available for prescription lenses. We recommend Trivex for all standard prescriptions and High-Index lenses for stronger prescriptions. Trivex offers the same impact resistance to Polycarbonate but offers optical clarity similar to mineral glass. And, High Index lenses allow for stronger prescriptions without making the lenses too thick or heavy.
Can you do prescription lenses in house?
Putting prescription lenses into sunglass frames is complicated since the lenses have many curves to them. Because of this it requires additional measurements that must be done while wearing the glasses. It’s for this reason that it’s much easier to have a local optician manage the entire process. That said, we do offer prescription lenses for those who can't have it done locally or would prefer to do it online.
Do you sell the frames by themselves so I can just get prescription lenses added?
We do not sell frames without lenses, even if you need a prescription your optician will need the stock lenses on hand in order to correctly manufacture the curve, size, and shape of your prescription lenses.
Can I use an FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) card on your website?
Yes! You should have no trouble checking out with an FSA or HSA card. Let us know if you need assistance.
About Non-Prescription Bifocals
Are non-prescription Bifocal lenses (Readers, Cheaters, etc…) available?
Yes, they are! We carry non-prescription bifocal reading lenses in both gradient and non-gradient tints. Check out our Non-Rx Bifocals here. We offer custom heights for these lenses, so if they're too high or low for your panel, just let us know and we'll help you with the process of getting new lenses that work for you.
I purchased Non-Rx Bifocal Lenses with my Flying Eyes frames, and I need a different version.
All of our frames have lenses that are easily removable. Within the first 90 days of your purchase, we are more than happy to swap out any non-prescription lenses for another version, all at no cost other than shipping. Contact us for more information.
Can I get a bifocal lens in only one eye, with a standard lens on the other side?
Sure! We have a lot of control over how the glasses are assembled, so we can definitely do that sort of thing. Choose the bifocal lens options you want and let us know what to do in the Note section of your order! Email us at support@flyingeyesoptics.com if you need more specific help with that process.
About Other Lens Options
Are Flying Eyes available with Polarized lenses?
Yes, they are however, we advise against their use by pilots as they can interfere with viewing PFDs, MFDs and PDAs. While Polarization is excellent for cutting down on glare in places like when on the water, they provide no additional protection for UV rays. And, all of our lenses (even our clear bifocals) already include 100% UV400 protection.
What’s the difference between Solid and Gradient Tint lenses?
The Solid tint lenses are the same amount of tint color and density throughout the entire lens, while the gradient tint lenses are darker at the top and a bit lighter at the bottom. The gradient is subtle so outwardly, people won’t really notice, but the gradient is very useful for viewing an instrument panel while at the same time blocking harsh sunlight through the windshield.
