Robinson Unveils the R88: The Future Workhorse of the Skies
The future of utility helicopters has arrived! The Robinson Helicopter Company has officially unveiled the R88, a next-generation rotorcraft designed to serve as the ultimate aerial workhorse. Engineered to tackle the most challenging tasks with enhanced power, lift, and endurance, the R88 redefines possibilities in the utility sector.
We had the incredible opportunity to attend Verticon 2025, where the R88 made its debut. We were also honored to have Flying Eyes eyewear showcased at the event. A huge thank you to Robinson Helicopter Company for allowing us to be part of this exciting moment in aviation history!
Meet the R88: The “Swiss Army Knife” of the Skies
The R88 is being recognized as the next-generation “Powerhouse” in the helicopter world, and for good reason. Robinson has designed this aircraft with rugged utility in mind, equipping it with the following features:
Power & Performance – A Honeywell HTS900 turboshaft engine delivers 1,000 shaft horsepower, providing increased payload capacity and efficiency.
Heavy Lifting Capabilities – With a maximum gross weight of 8,000 lbs and an external payload capacity of up to 2,500 lbs, the R88 is built for serious hauling.
Advanced Rotor System – A fully articulated rotor system enhances stability, maneuverability, and efficiency, making it ideal for demanding missions.
Speed & Range – The R88 cruises at a speed of 130 knots, with impressive fuel efficiency that makes it suitable for long-haul utility work.
The R88 is unlike anything Robinson has made before—it’s HUGE! With 10 seats (double that of the R66). From power line inspections and firefighting to cargo transport and aerial construction, this helicopter is poised to become an essential tool for operators worldwide.
Flying Eyes at the Event
As passionate advocates for aviation innovation, we were excited to attend Verticon 2025 for this historic launch. Flying Eyes eyewear was prominently featured, allowing pilots and industry professionals to experience our ultra-light, headset-compatible sunglasses, which are designed for optimal clarity and comfort in the cockpit.
We’re always excited to be part of groundbreaking moments in aviation, and the R88 is definitely one to watch.
